Spam Filter
SPAM is simply a jargon term for unsolicited email, typically advertising. SPAM can be costly to your company, both in network resources and in employee time.
- Keywords & phrases
Using advanced content scanner and weighting features, rules are created to identify and block SPAM messages based on words that are common to mass advertising emails. Rules may also be triggered if a certain word such as "cash" appears more than 4 times. Each word can also be assigned a score, so that each occurrence of objectionable words contributes to a total score. Any message with a score higher than a specified figure can then be blocked.
- Domain and IP blocking
If you are receiving SPAM from a particular organization, and they are not currently listed with GatewayDefender as a trouble sender, you can quickly and easily report the offending message to our engineers.
Relay Blocking
Spammers can relay email through an organization's mail server, giving the effect that unsolicited email is coming from that company rather than from the true source, the Spammer. This is a common SPAM technique, which has serious liability and company reputation repercussions for every business. GatewayDefender can detect and block malicious relay attempts. GatewayDefender can also be set to allow exceptions when there is a legitimate business reason, as in the case of specific customers or off-site employees.
Denial of Service (DOS) Attacks
Hackers may try to disrupt or disable your network by flooding your email server with thousands of repeated messages. This is known as a denial of service attack. GatewayDefender can detect the characteristics of such an attack and protect your network. Typically, GatewayDefender would inform your Network Administrator while slowing the rate of receipt of repetitive messages, yet continue to allow legitimate email in and out of the network.
